What Happened to Mactan’s Seafood (Sutukil) Restaurants

Sutukil comes from the words "sugba" (grill), tula (to simmer/broth), kilaw (to eat raw). It is Cebuano for popular ways to prepare seafood. One of the most well-known places for Sutukil can be found in Mactan, Cebu, Philippines.

But the once-thriving business has now become akin to that of a ghost town, with only one or two vendors left and barely any customers.

Whether it's the onset of Korean BBQ restaurants or the rampant seafood grill trend in the city (therefore nobody wants to go to Mactan Island anymore), one thing is for sure, the Sutukil today is not as popular or as in demand as it was in the 80's.
