Heroism comes in many forms. Sometimes, it means fighting for your country but oftentimes, it just means protecting another human being from a bad situation.
A 61-year old homeless man fought a gunned man to save a woman taken hostage outside of a church in Brazil. Luiz Antonio de Silva, 49, the gunman, was visiting the Sao Paulo Cathedral with the unnamed woman when an argument ensued.
"They entered and spent some time (in the church). They seemed to be arguing… She wanted to leave. He grabbed her arm. They then left the church and he assaulted her," cathedral security guard Joao Nascimento said.
As da Silva held the terrified woman down while brandishing a pistol, Erasmo Francisco Rodrigues de Lima, 61, intervened, tackling the gunman and allowing the woman to escape.
The woman got medical attention at the scene but was not seriously hurt. Both the homeless man and the gunman (killed by the police) died in the incident.
