China is known for their love for weird cuisine from fetuses to dolphin and shark meat. Recently a video of a live whale shark being sawed and cut in half by Chinese vendors sparked outrage in Social Media.
The actual place of the incident remains unknown but the Weibo user who uploaded the video online told reporters in thepaper.cn that he witnessed the scene in Yangjiang in southern Guangdong province. In just 3 days, the video got over 660,000 views with Youtube users debating on the Chinese cuisine choice.
The whale shark is protected by law because they are usually hunted for their fins, meat and oil; but there are fisheries in China that allegedly target the hunting of at least 600 sharks a year. The problem lies in their lack of implementation.
