Viral: Philippine Eagle Pamana Found Shot Dead in Protected Area

Last June 12, to celebrate Philippine Independence Day, Pamana, a Philippine eagle was released into a new forest home. However, 2 months later, Pamana was found rotting dead.

The 3-year-old Philippine eagle was found dead in a supposedly protected area, 1 kilometer from  Sitio Tomalite, Barangay La Union, San Isidro, Davao Oriental. Dennis Salvador of the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) said that the eagle had a gunshot wound on her right breast.

The incident is a direct violation of the Wildlife Act of 2002, the suspects have not been apprehended yet. Pamana means "heritage", "inheritance" or "legacy" in the Filipino language. Her remains were brought to the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos, Davao. She is just one of the the last 400 Philippine eagles fighting for survival.
