The Face of Leonardo: Images of a Genius, an exhibition in Taipei featuring over 50 authentic Italian paintings was momentarily closed after the incident. The CCTV footage of the accident was leaked online.
The 350-year-old piece of art from the 17th century, Flowers, painted by Italian artist Paolo Porpora is valued at $1.5 million. The 200-cm-tall piece, which features sunflowers, roses, tulips and carnations, is the only work signed by the artist. The artwork now has a hole, approximately the size of a 12-year-old's fist, in the lower corner.
Andrea Rossi, the curator, was really shocked when she found out about the incident but she assured that the boy and his family won’t have to pay for the damage since it will be covered by insurance.
