Kepler 452b: Earth-like Planet Discovered Orbiting Kepler 452 Star

National Aeronautics and Space Administration, more popularly known as NASA, has discovered an Earth-sized exoplanet orbiting a Sun-like star. The astronomers were happy to declare that they have discovered the closest thing to an "Earth twin".

A small planet called Kepler 452b is the second of the exoplanets discovered in the star Kepler 452 (a star similar to the Sun). The surface of the said planet is presumed to have water. Kepler 452b is the first Earth-like planet situated on the "habitable zone" of a star that's similar to the Sun. The distance of Kepler is 1,400 light-years and it is brighter than the Sun. According to the scientists, Kepler 452b exceeds the Earth by 60 percent, which makes a more promising exoplanet analogue than the rest of the planets previously discovered. The simulation however suggests that it weighs around five times heavier than Earth.

One year on Kepler 452b lasts 385 days. Kepler 452 star is estimated to be around 6 billion years old, 1.5 billion years older than the sun (scientists presume the planet to be around the same age).
