Babies are incapable of reproduction due to the absence of mature reproductive organs; despite that, a baby in Hongkong was found to have been pregnant at birth. In the study made by Hongkong Medical Journal, the fetuses inside the baby were originally thought to be tumors; but later development of spine, internal organs and umbilical cords confirm that they were in fact babies.
"Since it is impossible for the little girl to have conceived the pregnancy on her own, the fertilization of the twin fetuses, of course, belongs to her parents, which has gone to the wrong place," Dr. Yu Kai-man said conclusively.
A rare condition called fetus-in-fetu has an estimated incidence of 1 in 500,000 births; and there are less that 200 reported occurrence world-wide.
