There is a survey saying that the Philippines is the fifth happiest country in the world. In the 2014 Gallup Positive Experience Index, the Philippines scored 80, sharing the rating with Singapore, Switzerland and Uruguay. What do you think is the main reason for this?
According to some reliable studies, even with various difficulties such as poverty, Filipinos remain a happy bunch. We definitely know how to smile and laugh despite our problems. There's even a saying that goes something like, "Pag may problema ka, tawanan mo na lang" ("Just laugh about your problem"). One of the factors for this is a large support system. As with most Asian countries, the Philippines is others-oriented, which means you can easily rely on friends and extended family.

We are also a resilient race. Aside from the current widespread poverty mentioned above, the country is regularly struck with natural disasters. For instance, annually about 19 storms enter the Philippines' area of responsibility, and those that successfully make landfall usually causes thousands of death and massive damage in property. Filipinos that are victims of these disasters often have to start from scratch or at least with very little. Despite the odds, Filipinos definitely know how to come back through strength of faith, hope and determination.

According to the said news, Paraguay topped the list with a score of 89 followed by several other Latin American countries.
